Lesson Lengths/ Other arrangements

30 and 45 minute lessons

If a student finds an hour's lesson every week too much for their budget, it is quite possible to have a weekly 30 minute lesson. This is preferable to taking an hour's lesson every two weeks because a weekly lesson helps to keep my timetable regular, and also frees up more of the timetable for new student enquiries. And from the student's perpective, weekly contact and feedback from the teacher is clearly beneficial, and keeps the momentum and motivation constant.

90 minute lessons

Those students who want to learn more intensively or study a piece in more depth can have a 90 minute lesson. An example of the time distribution might be: Revision - 30 mins; Reading practice/ techniques - 30 mins; New piece - 30 mins.

Duo and Trio Lessons

Lessons with two or three people work well when I've already evaluated the students individually. When I'm confident that two students are at a similar level we can have a productive 90 minute lesson, each student taking turns to play rhythm or play melody/solo. It can also be a useful exercise (and fun!) for one of the students to play bass guitar...
