Cancellations...

99% of  cancellations are for valid reasons... you or a family member could be ill, bosses demand extra hours, there are birthdays, last minute emergencies... in fact there are 1001 reasons you might need to cancel a lesson. Remember though, if one of your colleagues at work had one of these problems and took a day off, it wouldn't affect your income...

As teaching is my job, I need to ensure that I am at least partially covered for any lost income on a last-minute cancellation.

Within 24 hours: I will charge half a lesson for a cancellation made within 24 hours of the booked lesson. I will indicate on the your webpage that 0.5 of a lesson has been charged. An online lesson will be sent (see below).

Within the Hour: If I'm on my way to a lesson, a lesson is cancelled when I arrive, or you don't turn up to a lesson at my place, I will need to be refunded for the entire lesson fee. The reasoning behind this is that I will have already planned my working day, and cancelling so late will not give me any time to do anything productive in that hour. An online lesson will be sent.

Enough Notice Given: If I'm informed more than 24 hours before the lesson time that it must be cancelled or changed, I will not charge for the cancellation (as I will have enough time to make other arrangements). An online lesson can be requested, which will be charged at £10.

Online Lesson The positive side for the student who has to pay a cancellation fee is that I will put a replacement lesson on the student's webpage... usually this will be a handwritten lesson that I will scan and upload to the page... or it will be a link to a Word document, PDF file or sound file related to a song or exercise. Sometimes I will send an mp3 audio lesson to listen to and study during the week.

I will only send files which are within the abilities of the student and which I estimate to be understandable according to what I've already taught them.
